Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the benefits of multivitamin/mineral supplement (Cogmax®, Eurofarma Laboratórios S.A †) in the loss of memory of postmenopausal women. Methods: Phase IV clinical study, non-comparative, with women between 45 and 60 years old with postmenopausal memory loss. Patients with marked cognitive decline or significant mood changes were excluded using the MIAr scale (memory assessment ≲3) and Beck's Inventory for depression (≳18) and anxiety (≳30). The participants underwent neuropsychological assessments (MIAr and SWCT tests) before and after treatment. The treatment consisted of using two Cogmax® capsules a day, postprandial, for 12 weeks. Results: The safety analysis population was 80 patients, however 10 were subsequently removed (N final sample 70). The comparison of the MIAr score showed a difference with an increase in the scores obtained (p = 0.003) 6 and 12 (p <0.001) weeks after the start of treatment. The results of the SCWT at the beginning and end of treatment indicated increased attention (p <0.001) and 91.0% of participants (95% CI = [84.7%; 97.4%]) noticed some degree of improvement in post-memory treatment. Conclusions: The results showed a statistically and clinically significant increase in the self-efficacy factor score of the MIAr questionnaire and the SWCT. In addition, most participants noticed some degree of memory improvement at the end of treatment with Cogmax®. The product showed good tolerability and safety in the studied population.
