João Victor Soares Coriolano Coutinho, Rosa Maria do Vale Bosso

Abstract

Purposes: Through a report´s case of dizygotic twins concordant for autism, we intend to discuss the way in which genetics factors and conditions of pregnancy as well as childbirth led to autistic behavior in the twins. We also intend to analyze the possibility of a folie à deux relationship, evaluate the son-rize method used in the treatment of siblings and highlight the importance of early diagnosis in patients with autism. Methods: We observed the twins in their pedagogical routines in the Neurological Center of the APAE - Araguaína-TO in 2013 and in 2014 we monitored the home's routine of siblings and their evolutions. The information was obtained through family reports who were close to those twins and of the teacher that accompanied them in APAE; also through individual school educational plan of twins. The data were collected with the permission of the APAE- Neurological Center in Araguaína-TO and the parents signed a consent form, allowing the publication. Case description: This is a case where at the time of the children´s conception their parents were middle-aged and the conditions of pregnancy and childbirth had risks. Both twins came to show symptoms of autism and one twin was more affected. The siblings were diagnosed late and soon after received treatment by professionals of the APAE. The son-rise method was used with the twins and they presented improvement. Conclusion: Case reports of twins, either one or both, with autistic behavior are few and contribute to the understanding of the possible causes that can lead to this disorder and help parents and professionals in understanding the autism.
