ANALYSIS OF FOOD CONSUMPTION AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE NUTRITIONAL STATUS IN AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS / MOTOR NEURON DISEASE

Abstract


Objectives: To analyze as the constitution of the diet interferes with the body composition of patients with Sclerosis Lateral Amyotrophic / Motor Neuron Disease. Methods: Longitudinal and observational study, with a convenience sample, where participants were divided into two groups: Appendicular Group (GA) and Bulbar Group (GB). The study protocol included a nutritional assessment performed quarterly for one year and included: analysis of body composition by multi-frequency segmental bioimpedance, nutritional diagnosis by body mass index (BMI), analysis of food intake, nutritional guidance and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis functional rating scale (ALSFRS-R). Results: Intake of macronutrients, fatty acids, omega 3 and 6, were directly related to body composition. Functionality improvement was found with macronutrient consumption in GA. Conclusion: The constitution of the diet interfered with the body composition and functionality of important patients, showing the need for nutritional intervention in patients with ALS / NMD.
