RELAÇÃO ENTRE A CARGA HORÁRIA E A QUALIDADE DE VIDA DOS ALUNOS DO CURSO DE MEDICINA DE UMA FACULDADE DE SALVADOR
Abstract
Introduction: Medicine is one of the busiest courses in Brazil, with a minimum workload of 7200 hours. At the medical school in focus, this workload is 9780 hours. There is a higher prevalence of fatigue, depressive symptoms, stress and burnout syndrome in medical students than in the general population. One should then assess the quality of life of these students and compare them with their large workload. Objective: To relate the hours of class and extracurricular study that medical students must meet each week with their respective qualities of life. Methodology: A cross-sectional quantitative study carried out at the university center researched in 2018. It was evaluated 80 students of the medical course from the 1st to the 8th semester. A questionnaire was carried out with sociodemographic variables and the workload created by the researcher, and a standardized questionnaire on quality of life, the SF-36. Results: The most prevalent sex was female with 67.5% of the total number of students. The mean age of the students was 23.5 years. A relation was observed between the academic workload and the quality of life of these students; the areas of quality of life in general with worse scores were those of Physical Limitation, Social Aspects and Vitality. Conclusion: There is a really poor quality of life for medical students and it is very much linked to the exorbitant workload that these academics face, mainly the domains emotional aspects, physical limitation and vitality, all intrinsically linked.
