CLINICAL-EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF PATIENTS WITH MENTAL DISORDERS IN THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON
Abstract
OBJECTIVE: analyze the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of mental disorders of the users of the Centre for Psychosocial Care II - Santarém, PA from 2007 to 2012. METHODS: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross sectional, retrospective and nonprofit documental analysis. RESULTS: The most common mental disorders were, respectively, the depressive episode, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Epidemiological variables among the most frequent disorders were equally prevalent among females, single and 31-40 years old, with only change in the age rate for the depressive episode to 41-50 years. The most prevalent symptom was insomnia in depressive episode and in bipolar affective disorder, while there was a higher frequency of hearing and / or visual hallucinations in schizophrenia. CONCLUSIONS: Though, it appeared evident the need to effect preventive measures in the region focused on population running the presented risk, especially seeking for the early identification of individuals with the disorder. Early diagnosis will result in a significant improvement in quality of life for these patients, since the consequences related to mental disorders in the family and social environment are minimized, by preventing the progress of the disease.
