ASSESSING QUALITY OF SLEEP AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS UNDER PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING METHOD

Abstract


In modern society, sleep disorders are considered one of the biggest public health problems, and medical students have a high susceptibility for its development. The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate the sleep quality of medical students under problem-based learning method through the application of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Epworth Sleepiness Scale. The results showed that 36.2% of the sample had poor sleep quality and 65.6% exhibited signs of excessive daytime sleepiness, both with prevalence in women and statistically significant relationship. It was identified that the latency and sleep duration reflect significantly in their habitual sleep efficiency. It is concluded that academics have knowledge about the status of their sleep and they are able to reduce risks to the development of disorders related to it.
